Our approach

Since 2005, UGEAFI's Isoko Complex School has been a beacon of quality education in remote Minembwe.

UGEAFI is committed to quality education for children and young people in rural, hard-to-reach and conflict-affected communities of Eastern DRC, believing education is a key driver of sustainable development, peacebuilding and economic empowerment.

At the heart of this work is the ISOKO Complex School in Minembwe — a model secondary school with five specialised streams: Agriculture, Veterinary Sciences, Mathematics and Physics, Nursing, and Business and Management. It has graduated more than 2,700 students, 60% of them girls, greatly expanding access to secondary and technical education in a region where it was once very limited.

Students gain hands-on experience through school farms, livestock management and science laboratories, and — through a village-school approach — apply their skills directly in surrounding communities. UGEAFI also promotes life skills, leadership, civic education, gender equality and peacebuilding, and improves school WASH facilities to create healthier learning environments.

What we do

  1. 01Run the flagship Isoko Complex School in Minembwe.
  2. 02Promote girls' education and retention.
  3. 03Train and support local teachers.
  4. 04Build and rehabilitate classrooms.

The ISOKO model

The ISOKO School Complex is UGEAFI's flagship — an integrated model where four vocational streams, each chosen for the region's real needs, converge on a single aim.

Sustainable community development

Four streams, one goal — graduates leave as nurses, agronomists, vets and entrepreneurs who go on to power UGEAFI's work across the Great Lakes.

Woven through every stream
  • Environment
  • Social cohesion
  • Leadership
  • Empowerment
  • Culture of peace
