Peacebuilding

UGEAFI runs community-based peacebuilding programs that prevent violence, strengthen social cohesion and promote peaceful coexistence in the conflict-affected areas of North and South Kivu, integrating peacebuilding into its education, livelihoods, VSLA and community work.

Since 2020, UGEAFI has strengthened communities' capacity to manage conflict peacefully. Through six training sessions and four inter-community dialogue meetings, it reached 14,600 community members in Minembwe and Bibokoboko — leaders, women, youth, displaced people and host communities — equipping them to identify sources of conflict and resolve disputes through dialogue.

The organisation supports community-based mediation with local and traditional leaders, engages youth through education and sports as an alternative to armed-group recruitment, and promotes women's participation in dialogue and leadership — contributing to more inclusive and durable peace.
