Safe water for life.
UGEAFI has delivered safe water to more than 90,000 people through boreholes and the MAJI AFYA BARAKA project.
UGEAFI has extensive experience delivering integrated Water, Sanitation and Hygiene programs in rural and hard-to-reach communities across DRC and South Sudan — improving access to safe drinking water, promoting good hygiene, strengthening sanitation and preventing waterborne disease in conflict-affected and displacement settings.
In 2026, UGEAFI strengthened water supply in Goma, installing five 5,000-litre tanks in schools plus further tanks at the MAPENDO and ISOKO clinics. More than 330,000 litres of safe water are now distributed each month. Large-scale rural projects have built 103 water points and 7 reservoirs for refugees in Lusenda Camp and residents of Idjwi, and 29 protected springs in Kalehe reaching 29,750 people.
To ensure sustainability, UGEAFI established and trained 24 community Water Management Committees. It also supports infection prevention through liquid chlorine — more than 68,000 litres since 2022 — and has distributed hygiene kits to 12,450 women and girls, improving menstrual hygiene and school attendance.
